Allegedly when Charles de Gaulle resigned in 1969 he and his wife gave a press conference in English. After De Gaulle's speech, one of the journalists asked his wife what she was looking forward to most now her husband had retired. She replied "A penis" with a big smile. What did De Gaulle say in reply?

On the surface, it's a song about a young couple hitchhiking, but in reality it's a protest song.

I left this because in my younger days I used to play backing piano for a lot of Simon and Garf wannabees. This is from America - which I must admit I did not know was a protest song.

According to the writer of the song, which UK number 1 of the 1960s has a title that refers to the fact that prostitutes in Hamburg needed a permit from the local authority stating they were free from disease in order to ply their trade?
