I was having dinner at a restaurant when an old lady at another table came over to me crying. She said I looked and sounded just like her son who had sadly died and asked me if I would do her a favour and say, "Goodbye mum" as she left to remind her of better times. I did this and it wasn't until half an hour later when I'd finished my meal that I realised that she was a con artist. How did I know?

It's difficult to give a clue without giving the answer. What do you do when you've finished your meal in a restaurant?

Run?

or

Did she say to the waiter something like "my son will pay the bill", just before you shouted "goodbye mum"?

That's it - she told her waitress her son would pay the bill making sure the waitress heard me say "Goodbye Mum" so I got left with both bills...

Last week I decided to cycle to my Grannie's house.

On the first day, I cycled half of the distance.

On day 2, I cycled one half of the remaining distance.

On day 3, I cycled three quarters of the remaining distance.

On day 4, I cycled 10 miles.

On day 5 I cycled two thirds of the remaining distance and on the final day I cycled the remaining 5 miles.

How far is it to my Grannie's house?

OK - my working is that after 3 days you've cycled 15/16 of the way. On day 4. 5 and 6 you cycled 25 miles so Grannie must live 400 miles away.
