Thought I'd hi-jack WR's thread if that's ok.

Went to this lovely little place a couple of months ago, can you guess where it is (I think the country is quite easy but if anyone gets the village I will be surprised).

I did wonder if it was Portugal but I know Esquina is Spanish for "corner" - let me guess - it's also Portuguese for corner...

It was really nice. The beach was almost deserted and absolutely beautiful.

Really friendly locals too. Highly recommend it for a quiet getaway.

Haven't had one of these for a while. I'm off tomorrow on a 7 hour flight to a city of 700,000 people, the temperature is a rather warm 30 degrees C which is actually a few degrees below the June norm although in the winter it rarely gets above freezing. It is a big university city with around 300,000 students attending the various colleges in its metropolitan area. Among people hailing from the city are the country's best known political dynasty, the most famous of the country's founders, the queen of 70s disco, an author said to be the inventor of detective fiction and a composer whose most famous musical was made into a film that won 10 Oscars. The city has a long and rich history and was the largest city in the country until around 1750. So which city and who are the 5 local luminaries mentioned?

Correct on all counts - well done. The only one you missed was founding father and human lightning conductor Benjamin Franklin.
