The losers of my quiz are given a box of Tunnocks tea cakes as their booby prize (I often accuse teams of playing strategically to win them) but I also ask those team members to give me their 'specialist subject', a topic for which I set a round of questions for the next quiz. Only they know what topic to expect, but I set the 5 questions.

They are allowed to set any topic (we've had things like the number 30 and motorway service stations) but I do occasionally have to veto a topic, usually because it has been duplicated (like Game of Thrones and...wait for it...Tunnocks tea cakes).

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to let the team set their own questions so they get 5 guaranteed points: the losing team often tends to be a group of people who didn't realise we had a quiz on, give it half a go and then we never see them again!

I quite like that idea. My team used to win our local pub quiz a bit too often so the QM used to chuck in rounds on Soaps and D-list celebs which we were hopeless at - a couple of my team mates were grumpy about that but I thought it was fair enough. You can certainly handicap teams by asking questions they're bad at and likewise give some teams an advantage by asking questions in areas they're strong. I think that's all part and parcel of being a pub quizmaster - you don't want the same teams winning every week..

Great idea.

Pictures out of OK magazine and soaps are my downfall too, but I accept they are needed to be all inclusive.

I did a round entitled Soaps a few years ago. Lots of jokers played, but lots of groans when the first question was "Which washing powder shares their name with a Disney Princess?" Also covered the Archers as well as the regular TV soaps!
