Just wondered if anyone could suggest music/song connection round subjects. I would like to play 9 songs and then have people guess the connection. My movie knowledge is good but songs are more than a bit rusty. I saw one idea about American cities, any help would be fanastic. Cheers

Galveston - ??

anything by - Gloria Estafan and the Miami Sound Machine

Do you know the way to San Jose - ??

Is this the way to Amarillo - Tony Christie

There are a few ideas to start with.

I do musical connections too - here are a few ideas I've used in the past. Sorry - my music collection isn't very up-to-date though, as will become obvious...!

Beatles songs - loads of people have done Beatles covers!

Red, white and Blue - if you're doing nine songs, how about three 'Reds' (eg Little Red Rooster / Old Red Eyes is Back) then three 'Whites' (White Wedding / Nights in White Satin) and three 'Blues' (Blue Monday / I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues) ?

Fruit and Veg! - Blueberry Hill / Sergeant Pepper / Peaches and so on

Wedding Anniversaries - China Girl / Silver Lining / Ruby Tuesday / Gold / Diamonds are Forever

Songs with French Titles - Cherie Amour / Femme Fatale / C'est La Vie / Voulez Vous.....

Newspapers - Independent Woman / Mirror Mirror / Express Yourself / Here Comes the Sun etc

Names beginning with... - Annie's Song / Alison / Angie / Alice, What's the Matter

& how about some connections between the singers rather than the songs -

One word names (Bjork / Sting / Madonna / Dido / Enya / Seal)

People who've done James Bond themes (eg. Sheryl Crow / Garbage / Duran Duran / Madonna)

Hope it's useful!

Eh up, Seaside.

Don't know if you're still having trouble, but found this website recently which has helped me do themed connected music rounds in the past:

They have a search engine which you can use to narrow down your titles.

It's brilliant!

Depends on how smart the target audience is...

How about groups that are just letters/numbers, UB40, ELO, M, ELP, OMD, OMC, AC/DC...

Or groups that have brothers within it, Bros, Spandau Ballet, Credence Clearwater Revival, UB40, Kinks, Proclaimers, Sparks...

Here's another....

Songs by Rod Stewart, Elton John, Craig David, Dean Martin, Bob Dylan, Billy Paul, Toni Basil, George Micheal, Paul Simon, Buddy Holly, Gary Jules, Etta James, Billy Joel.... (do you know what it is yet!)

Or songs titles that contain parts of the body... Cry your eyes out (Streets), Under my skin (Sinatra), Hold your hand (Beatles), Arms wide open (creed), Under my thumb (Stones), Lying eyes (Eagles), Hot legs (Rod Stewart), Tiger feet (Mud), Little Willy (Sweet), Won't back down (Tom Petty), Can't get you outa my head (Kylie), Great balls of fire (Jerry Lee Lewis)....

Songs used in movies... don't name the song, but name the movie.

There are loads of songs with a number in the title... 9 million bycicles, 3 times a lady, take 5, 1812 overture, 2 little boys, when I'm 64, 7 seas of rhye, 500 miles, Pennyslvania 65000, 99 red balloons (I love those German armpits), the night has a 1000 eyes, 24hrs to Tulsa... ask for one answer only.... what's the sum of the lot! Could be a million out!.

Good luck.
